5 Key Points to Working with a Web Designer in 2021
Building a website, is no overnight process. I don’t care what the ads may leave you to believe-
Even if you delegate the job to a trained professional, you are going to need to be prepared to be involved in the process if you expect to see the results you desire.
48% of people said that website design is the number one factor when deciding on the credibility of a business, so it’s understandable why so many people seek professional help when building their websites.
But using a web designer can bring its own problems – how can you be sure you’ll get what you want? Is there a way to make sure everything goes smoothly?
Recently, I was contracted by a small business for a website. Not long after, it became clear that we had put the cart ahead of the horse when it came to her needs.
My client was busy running her business, and i was busy trying to understand my client. She, like many other professionals did not want to be boggled down with the details.
However, it is the details that will make your site the very best it can be. Unfortunately, this lead to both of us walking away deeply unsatisfied.
I, like many other designers want you to be happy, and so after reflecting on what went wrong, I crafted This article, it will give you helpful tips on how to set up a smooth relationship with your web designer and communicate your ideas clearly, so both sides go home happy.
This doesn’t mean you have to spend hours in consultation, but you will have to spend about an hour or two understanding your own needs and the needs of your clients so that you can better communicate with your designer.
I recommend 5 key steps to make the process easier and provide you with optimal results:
Do your research.
There are plenty of designers with various levels of expertise and specializations. Find the one that works for you, vet them, and ask to look at their portfolio.
Visualize.
Have an idea of what your site should look like, you may consider viewing competitor sites and offering 2-3 reference links for your client to work with.
Prepare your resources.
Be prepared to share your work, be it photos, company policies, slogan, logo, press, bio… the more you provide for your designer the more equipped they are to do their work.
Know your story.
Be ready to share your brand story. Who are you, what are your values, what brought you to this type of work… Your brand story has a 22x higher chance of converting leads into clients. Do not neglect it
Strategize.
Understand the goals you have for your website. Do you want to inform clients you already have, or do you want to focus on lead conversion? Know this prior to moving forward so that your site can function towards your specified needs.
